Tour description

On this trip, you will experience the northern lights in a special way. Everything from our warm sailboat with experienced guides and skipper. You will be provided with Arctic stories and we will explore the majestic surrounding fjords in the polar night. Our crew are happy to share with you the tricks and settings in order to take the best northern light pictures. Don´t miss it!

A group of 6-8  friends is the optimal number for this tour. But if you are less people please send us a request. The minimum group size is 4.

DIFFICULTY

Easy.  This tour is made for everyone with a bit of patience. The heater in the boat and warm drinks will make a confortable trip for everyone

WEATHER

The weather in the north is very unpredictable and the northern lights are a natural phenomenon that we cannot control.  However we trust our experience and we will try our best to provide an unforgettable trip. 

DEPARTURE

We departure every night at 20:30 from 15 September to 1st November and 1st January to 15 March . We meet at 20:00. 

Meeting point

We will meet you at Scandic Ishavshotel, Fredrik Langes gate 2, 9008 Tromsø. Our sailboat will be moored just a few meters away from it, right in the city center.

Itinerary

Welcome aboard Tromsø Harbour

At 20.00 We will meet by the Scandic Ishavshotel, Fredrik Langes gate 2, 9008 Tromsø. Our sailboat will be moored just a few meters away from it, right in the city center. and we will walk on board. Waiting at Makaria II there will be warm coffee for a warm welcome. Soon after a Safety Briefing and route explanation will follow. At 20:30 we will departure in search for northern ligths. 

The routes vary from day to day depending on the weather forecast. We will sail around the surrounding fjords in order to escape the light pollution from the city. Once we found our spot, we will either anchor or stay adrift waiting for the show display. At 24:30, we will start sailing back to the harbour.

LIFE ON BOARD (MUST READ)

HEAT

The WEBASTO heating system keeps the boat at around 20ºC even in the coldest temperatures to ensure a comfortable stay for our guests. 

ELECTRICITY

The electricity on board is unlimited when at the harbour. At anchor, the boat runs on battery power and every cabin is equipped with 12V USB sockets. There is one 220V plug available in the navigation station that can be used to charge equipment 24/7 on 220V.

WATER

The boat is equipped with two water tanks providing a maximum freshwater capacity of 650L which are refilled at every harbour.

PHOTOGRAPHY

To take pictures of northern lights the ocean must be very still. Otherwise is more efficient from land. We encourage you to bring your camera, however we will be there to take photos with you. 

WHAT TO BRING FOR THIS ADVENTURE

For this activity, our guests must be prepared to be outside during winter time. Therefore Warm/Wind proof/Water proof clothes are needed. Although you can always borrow our spare equipment upon availability (rain jackets gloves and hats).
